Support the Gift of Fitness

I don't believe there is any greater gift one could give than the gift of fitness. We've all heard a great deal about the need to promote a healthy lifestyle with today's youth. So many are overweight with little physical activity in their lives. This can lead to tremendous health complications in later years. This may be the first generation to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. With health care treatment for obesity-related illness already at $150 billion annually, this is an alarming thought. Cholestrol drugs and heart medications only go so far. To have a quality life, an active lifestyle is paramount. Young people across the country desparately need opportunities where they can join together in healthy pursuits that can last a lifetime. Participation in the Ely Memorial High School Timberwolves Track and Field Club is on of those opportunities. Like many sports, running is something you grow to love, but unlike other sports; running is something you can continue to do well into your golden years.

The track club is 50+ members strong and yet it receives no support from the school district. All operating funds come from generous contributors like yourself. People who care about the health of our children. People who believe healthy pursuits such as running will translate into an active lifestyle in adulthood. Many of today's track club members are excellent runners and state champion Nordic skiiers. They care about their sport and do quite well despite no longer having a track to run on at the high school. All of their meets occur elsewhere.

I would like to see the track club have the money to operate well into the future. I would like to see the track club restore their home track at the high school. Above all I like to see the kids running through town as a team. When I see them I know their futures are bright and the future of Ely is bright. If care about the health of our children; if you care about that little town at the end of the road, beautiful Ely, MN; please consider giving to the Ely Track and Field Club.
